It is with great pride and gratitude that we share some exciting news: LaDonna Sherwood, community leader and candidate for Beaumont City Council representing Ward 3, has been selected as an MLK Jr. Honoree for the upcoming 39th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Brunch!

This recognition is a true honor, as it highlights individuals whose lives and work embody the principles and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. LaDonna's tireless dedication to her community and her commitment to empowering others perfectly align with the values Dr. King Championed throughout his life.


The event will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center, located at 3401 Cultural Drive, Port Arthur, Texas. The celebration promises to be an inspiring gathering of community members, leaders, and honorees all united by a shared dedication to justice, equity, and change.




Reflecting on the honor, LaDonna said:

"I think that Martin Luther King was someone who understood the dynamics, the time, and the people. I'd like to continue in that same vein and be that conduit - someone who understands the need, the moment, and the people."


LaDonna also shared how Dr. King's approach to leadership resonates deeply with her:


"He encompassed it all to make change - sometimes being easy, and sometimes being tough. That's what resonates with me, and that's what I strive to embody everyday."


As a candidate for Beaumont City Council Ward 3, LaDonna is committed to uplifting her community by addressing economic development and Infrastructure. Her work reflects the strength, courage, and determination that Dr. King so powerfully modeled.

BEAUMONT, TEXAS - LaDonna Sherwood, a lifelong Beaumont resident, accomplished businesswoman, and dedicated community advocate, has officially announced her candidacy for Beaumont City Council Ward 3.

"Ward 3 is filled with untapped potential," Sherwood stated. "I'm running to ensure that every voice is heard, every concern is addressed and every resident has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can rise and create a stronger, more vibrant future for our neighborhoods."


Sherwood's campaign will focus on two key pillars aimed at addressing the unique needs of Ward 3 residents:

  • Infrastructure Renewal: Tackling neglected infrastructure to improve quality of life and create a foundation for growth in Ward 3.

  • Economic Development: Supporting local businesses, fostering responsible development, and creating new opportunities to revitalize the community.




A Proven Leader with Deep Local Roots


A proud graduate of Clifton J. Ozen High School, Sherwood went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Houston and a Master's in Public Administration from Lamar University. She brings over 18 years of experience as a licensed insurance agent, child care administrator, and owner of a successful non-emergency medical transportation company serving Medicare and Medicaid recipients.


Sherwood is married to Army veteran and former Union Pacific Railroad executive Greg Hailey and is the proud mother of two children who attend Beaumont Independent School District schools. Her commitment to family and her community fuels her passion for creating a brighter future for all Ward 3 residents.

Sherwood emphasized the importance of community-centered leadership.
